Dog and Cat Adoption Policies and Procedures
Thank you for visiting Wild Rivers Animal Rescue, and thank you for considering adoption. We understand that bringing a pet into your home is a big decision that deserves a lot of consideration. The wellbeing and safety of our animals comes first and we reserve the right to refuse any adoption for any reason.
Adoption Procedure
- Wild Rivers Animal Rescue is not a pet store and does not sell animals. Animals are adopted into loving homes.
- Our goal is to adopt animals into an environment deemed suitable by Wild Rivers Animal Rescue. This will take into account the animals' personality and needs.
- In order to adopt an animal from our shelter, you will be required to fill out an application. Applicants are screened to determine their ability to provide a safe and caring environment for their pets.
- You must be 18 or older to adopt an animal. You will be required to provide photo ID at the time of adoption.
- All individuals living in the home, including children, will be required to meet the pet prior to taking them home. If you are adopting a dog, the adopted dog must meet all other dogs living in your home prior to adoption.
- If any person in your home is against adopting the pet for any reason, you will not be approved.
- If you do not own your home, you may be asked to provide written authorization from your landlord.
- No animal may be adopted as a gift for someone else without the recipient's participation in the adoption process.
- An adoption fee will be charged at the time of adoption and is non-refundable. The following is a list of what is included in the adoption fee:
- Spay/Neuter
- Flea and worm treatment
- Microchip
- Vaccines: DAPP-L4, Bordetella and Rabies (dogs) / FVRCP, Felv, and Rabies (cats)
Adoption Policies
- •Only companion animals are routinely placed for adoption as household pets. Wild Rivers Animal Rescue will not adopt out animals strictly as attack dogs, animals used for research or experimentation.
- •Due to pet overpopulation all pets adopted through Wild Rivers Animal Rescue will be spayed or neutered, and vaccinated before an adoption is finalized. Until this time Wild Rivers Animal Rescue reserves our right to reclaim the animal in the event of a contract breach.
- •All animals will be microchipped.
- •Animals will not be adopted out to anyone voicing a desire to have cosmetic surgeries performed on them (i.e.: tail docking, ear cropping for dogs, declaw for cats)
- •No animal will be adopted to a person in a household with a known history of cruelty convictions, known neglect or abandonment of animals or previous violations of pet adoption policies.
- •The adopting party must agree to provide this animal with proper care at all times, including nutritious food, clean water, exercise, emotional love and support and veterinary care necessary to prevent illness and relieve suffering.
- •Rabies vaccinations are a legal requirement; the adopting party must agree to keep this animal up to date on rabies vaccinations. We strongly encourage keeping the animal up to date on other vaccines as well.
- •Dogs must be licensed in the county the adopter resides in. This is a legal requirement in most counties as well.
- •In the event of a contract breach, Wild Rivers Animal Rescue reserves the right to reclaim the animal.
